Everyone has got it.

Luke 4:21-30 IS THIS NOT JOSEPH'S SON?  Have you ever felt like 'she/he has nothing reasonable to say or offer anyway'?   We sometimes look down on people and overlook certain important things as they happen.  Jesus must have felt so bad in the midst of his people. They rejected him because they knew him so well; of course the carpenter's son and the son of that young common lady.  They saw Jesus grow up as a boy and so took him for granted.  Little did they know that they were gazing on the creator of the universe in human flesh. We sometimes are like the people in this gospel story.  In a group, we look down on those we know so well and feel they haven't got much to offer. We slash them down in our minds even before they talk, probably because of their age, class, colour, experience of life or whatever. This blinds us from seeing the beauty and giftedness each person has got to offer in a group and in our midst. God uses such "low" people to show his gre...

THE MAGIC BOOK

Image
We often read books and mostly with the help of Android phones, we have stories and knowledge at our finger tips. Reading has become easier.  BUT lo, there is a magic book and magical because it does far much than the other books. Hebrews 4: 12-13 "The word of God is something alive and active. It cuts like any double-edged sword but more finely..."  As we read this magic book, our lives are gradually transformed. The seed of life is been sown in our hearts, waiting to be watered and nurtured by the Divine Author of the book itself. It is a gradual process. Take to reading this book daily and prayerfully in a quiet space and you will notice your life changing. Again, it is a gradual process. Be patient with yourself as you read the book of life and magic.  We need to Scan our lives with this book just as we scan our phones so seriously. Befriend this magic book.

VOCATION SUNDAY

We feel joyful in the house of the Almighty. Many sorrows and worries are left outside the gate for those moments of worship.  The Word lifts us up. The word stirs us. We feel great when our Kids come out victorious under the tutelage of Catholic Education. We feel healed when those soothing hands reach out to us in Health Centres.  We ask for Prayers when faced on all sides with challenges and battles of life. We run to and seek consolation and direction when life becomes obscure.  We sometimes seek for physical assistance, whatever can be done to aid the less privileged. People run to Priests and Religious Women who preach the word, who give quality education, who fight to save lives, who give listening ears to others in the midst of their own struggles, who fight injustices at different levels. We run to Men and Women who give all these supports. Men and Women who bade farewell to their homes, farewell to comfort and wealth and privileges. Men and Women who said YES t...

Promises Beyond Us

Mark 6:14-29:  Have you ever been mocked or tortured for Justice' sake? Have you ever been tormented for speaking out the truth? This is a story of John the Baptist who was beheaded for speaking out the truth to Herod and Herodias having an affair. Herod was perplexed by the personality John and his preachings, but he was uncomfortable with the challenge thrown to him not to marry his brother's wife. Both Herod and Herodias had grudges against him, until the opportunity to act on the grudge came ( John's head on a platter) and that was when Herodias' daughter danced to the delight of Herod, who made a promise to grant her anything she asked. Herod thought only of his reputation and image should he refuse to keep his promise, and forgot his inner move towards John. Never be lured into making promises beyond you, just to please someone or out of lust. Think twice before making any promise. What if a promise is made and we discover it robs off something of God's image ...

God does God's things.

You wake up in the morning, your head all made up of your plans, activities and targets of the day. Something else unfolds for you at the end of the day, at times very different from your plans. You decide to take the right turn to your destination, nature or the Divine takes you the left turn. You are attracted to that thing you long to have and it will feel like heaven once you get it, eventually you get it and you ask " what was so special?" "What Next?".  You think you know it all in your plans but the Divine humbles you to knowing a little. The Divine has already planned the day or event for you.  Isaiah 40:13---Who has ever directed the Lord or whom did he consult? Job 37: 5-24---The greatness of God in creation.  God's ways are never our ways. God's thoughts are never ours. He sees beyond what we can see. In God, there is no Monday or Tuesday, no 6am or 7am, no January or February. God is the fullness of time. In him all exists.  He is the Omniscient ...

On the Road together.

We are on the journey together.  We are in the struggle together. Ezekiel 33:7-9. Together we build the Kingdom of God. We are responsible for one another. No one is an island. We struggle each day to a closer relationship with God. It can be tough and full of challenges but his grace is sufficient for us.  Never forget your Brother/Sister as you go. We are still on the road to perfection. If we sit back and say we won't encourage one another, then who will do it? Better we caution ourselves, than all toll the road to perdition. Our Good and Understanding God sees our efforts and struggles and he keys into it by sending his grace. His grace will always be there for us.  God is so much interested in the little efforts we make to get closer to him than our sins. God does not like the sins but he loves the sinner to life.  When we see something bad, we are challenged this day from the book of Ezekiel stated above, to call the person to order in love. Gently and gently, ...

Drop that Stone

At times, we carry grievance or hurt in us about someone or something that it insidiously drags us down emotionally or otherwise. We forget that God has forgiven us much more than we can comprehend.  A look at MATTHEW 18:21-19:1. The Lord forgave the servant owing him huge sum of money; but the servant who was forgiven in a split moment forgot what just took place in his life. In that parable, Jesus emphasized on forgiveness as having no measurement or limit. Some versions of the Bible puts it as Seventy-seven. Some put it as Seventy times seven. Whatever it is, the Lord wants us to forgive as much as we can. He forgives us as many times, even before we ask; we must do the same.  Truth be told that it is not an easy thing, but we got to start somewhere. Whatever we have experienced from someone that is really hurting deeply, let us run to the throne of grace to seek his power to let go. Remember, no one is completely perfect as not to hurt another. As long as human beings keep...
